Spanish Dogs Mutilated

The Scooby Refuge

7 March 2003 - The American-European Greyhound Alliance was contacted recently (6 February) by Juan Jesus in Spain. He is a part-time worker for a town shelter. At the end of the hunting season, many galgos were left at the shelter for him to care for. He is trying desperately to care for them all instead of simply putting them to sleep as is usual. We have sent donations to help the dogs as well as forwarded many donations that Americans have made specifically to care for these dogs.

Here are some individual pictures of the dogs in Juan's care:

Some good news from Anna......

24 Feb - The Gijon shelter (on the coast of Northern Spain) today received two galgas from Cadiz. We did get a home offer not long ago from a family in Gijon but I was reticent because we had no one there to check them out first. Now we do and so one of them may soon have a good family to go to.

Puppy needing help.......

This little puppy, names Rogelio - beautiful one - has had some injuries inflicted on it from the larger dogs. He was isolated from them, and has been sent to Anna and Albert for treatment and care. Pat Colitsas is paying for his treatment and it's hoped he can come to the US to be adopted in May.

More news from Anna....

Maite, one of our board members has found a boarding kennelfor 3 euros per day per dog. Juan could drive down there with ten galgos in his van. Juan's vet has vaccinated the galgos for us at 9 euros each including vaccination record. One more galgo is going to a good home in Lerida two hours away from us the day after tomorrow. They'll be bringing the galgo to us to do the spaying and so on. Little by little we'll get there.

If you would like to help the galgos that Juan is caring for with a tax-deductible donation, please click on the Paypal "Make a Donation" link below. You can use their secure server to send a donation using any major credit card to the AEGA that will immediately be passed on to Spain. AEGA does not keep any portion of these donations.
