Spanish Dogs Mutilated

The Scooby Refuge

15 Galgos moved to boarding kennels

Anna Clements has worked very hard to arrange for the transport of 15 galgos from Cadiz to a commercial boarding kennel in Ecija. Donations made through the American-European Greyhound Alliance are financing these dogs' veterinary care and daily boarding fees. Some of the dogs are pictured below. The pictures and descriptions are courtesy of a supporter of SOS Galgos, Maite.

This is Iru.  Very calm natured. Seems the oldest of them all. Male, affectionate. Vaccinated recently against kennel cough.

Cebra

Dartacan

Tita was very weak when she arrived. She's female like Cebra. Wounds everywhere. She was very underweight but she is now gaining. Like Cebra she needs a lot of affection. She's submissive and very shy but loves to be petted, ...and she needs it. Today we'll vaccinate them of kennel cough. Tita is black, and has a white line on her face. She's really pretty.

Leo is male and huge like a lion. Very gorgeous, affectionate, playful although he's now being treated for kennel cough. He was the first to catch it. He's got a nice presence and is calmer than Blas, because I think he's older.

This is Blas. He's a male, not sure what age, but doesn't seem very old. Playful, and wants to be petted. He urinates everywhere. Big in size. Vaccinated against kennel cough. When I take him out his kennel, he runs and runs, and barks when I let another out and take him back in because he wants to stay outside.

This is Platero. It's the galgo from the kids camp site (called farm school in Spanish). Very calm and sweet. Not one wound on his body. He's not very big, more like Mafi in size. Blas is bigger. When you call him he comes up to me and you can stroke him for a long time because he loves it. (I have a french couple coming to adopt in April who I've sent his photo too among others so he may have a home soon)

Nina is the black one. She's brindle black, female, small in size. She's underweight, ..and very affectionate and needs cuddles. Today we'll vaccinate her against kennel cough.

Chela is brindle, but brown. Female and very thin. Demands a lot of attention.

Cadiz Kennels vandalized!

On the 16th of March, vandals broke into the kennels at Cadiz. They damaged the fencing and some dogs got out. They attempted, without success, to create dog fights. Rocks were also thrown at the defenseless dogs. Below is a description of what happened from Juan.

ANOTHER SALVAJADA IN A KENNEL!  Last night some individuals entered in the kennel of the Union of Cádiz and they took out to a boxer of their cage and they put it in that of the rottweiler so that fights.  But as the two prey dogs they are not accustomed to fight for luck they didn't make them anything.

They have thrown stones against the dogs of the center and they have broken the barrier of the corral of the greyhounds disappearing two of them and one has appeared run over in the highway that passes to about two hundred or three hundred meters of the kennel.

The thing is that they are the same ones that a man saw on previous Sunday in the kennel hitting the dogs and that when detecting that this gentleman was there, they left running in two motos covering you the expensive gift the hoods of the clothes that took.

It is one more than the endless thefts and gamberradas that it is necessary to support of these wicked ones. We will have presented in one year like unite twenty accusations for robberies of dogs, of material, destructions... and the thing still continues. Propusemos to the Union the acquisition of a system of surveillance but they denied it for lack of resources.. The problem is no longer only the material destructions but the damage that you/they cause to our animals and the serious danger that a traffic accident takes place in fact for the dogs that escape for the broken barriers, the house that you leave to the bottom of the highway it is our kennel.

Another 19 galgos from Cadiz have been moved to Vic, near Barcelona and are under the care of Mo Swatek. Two Podencos also went along for the ride. Here's a note from Mo shortly after their arrival......

With a delay of 4 hours the 21 hounds had left Cadiz in the early morning hours for Vic near Barcelona. Due to the fully loaded van and the trailer, Juan Jesus and his girlfriend had to drive slower than expected and the dogs arrived only in the afternoon in our rescue station. GIN will finance the dogs with the donations from the GALGO EMERGENCY FUND and PRO-GALGO with donations from german galgo lovers. Picture on this link.

Hounds and drivers arrived tired but well ... and the dogs came in much better condition than we had all expected. Juan Jesus had worked very hard to prepare the 19 Galgos and 2 Podencos. All the dogs were correctly vaccinated and had received internal and external parasites treatment. Picture on this link.

The german PODENCO-ASSOCIATION  has prepared 1500kg of donations for Juan Jesus and his Galgos, ready to go to Cadiz next week. They collected medication, parasites treatments, towels, sheets, puppy food, vitamins and first aid stuff, worth several thousand USD . The small shelter IBI near Alicante had received 6000kg of material. PRO-GALGO had also had several hundred kg of donations from the podenco people in Germany and had shared it with shelters all over Spain.

We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to JUAN JESUS for his courage and for the great work. Another big THANKS to all the people who helped us to save the 21 hounds!
