GREYHOUND CHEATS TRAPPED BY REPORTER

Kenyon Confronts
Thursday, December 6
BBC2 8.30-9.00pm

In the second programme of his new series, Paul Kenyon confronts the crooks behind one of the most popular spectator sports in Britain - Greyhound Racing. Every week tens of thousands of enthusiasts attend tracks while many more go down to the bookies to bet million on the dogs.

Kenyon goes undercover to reveal race fixing at one of the nation's top tracks, while at other venues find performance drugs being sold. He also uncovers a mass grave that sheds light on what happens to some of the thousands of dogs which 'retire' from racing every year. By buying his own dogs and learning how to pass himself off as an owner and trainer, Kenyon gains access to the side of the sport which is usually closed to the public.

It's the dream of every punter, to buy their own greyhound. When Kenyon buys a dog from a trainer at a major track he soon finds out that there is such a thing as a sure bet. The trainer offers to fix the dog's first race and give Kenyon the chance to make thousands from a gambling fraud.

Then there is the suspicious van seen in the car parks of the Greyhound stadiums across the north of England. Posing as a new owner and trainer, Kenyon starts to race the dogs at one of the tracks and is accepted as one of the regular faces. The van driver turns out to be a canine drug dealer specialising in fixing greyhound races. Kenyon is invited into his inner
sanctum for a master class in race fixing and shown a massive amount of drugs, including cocaine.
