Jessie had a rough time of it in Ireland.....

Greyhounds - indeed many animals in Ireland - end up in tortured circumstances. Despite the many wonderful people in Ireland there is an undercurrent of animal cruelty that is under reported and hard to deal with.

Dogs and other animals are tied to railroad tracks or burned alive. One old man came home
to find frogs impaled on the spikes of his gate. In this climate Jessie - an eleven year old Greyhound racer was found by a fortuitous passerby.

Jessie was drowning in the Royal Canal in Dublin. Her rescuer managed to pull her out of the water and the Blue Cross animal care service took her in and paid her medical bills.

Most positively for Jessie, Bernie Wright of Dog Rescue heard about her and since Bernie was sending some Greyhounds and lurchers to
the U.S., Jessie came along. On her medical papers it said 'found in canal' and 'depressed'.

Jessie likes the U.S. She enjoys sleeping on soft beds and eating well. Jessie isn't fat now but she does have a corpulent sort of look that brings
to mind a cuddly bear. She is a happy, contented dog.

Jessie probably lived in someone's back garden. The circumstances of how she ended up struggling for her life in the canal are completely unknown but since her tatooes provide a racing name and owner name, inquiries will be made -
just to try to solve the mystery.

Kevin Stow, who lives in the UK offered to do some research about her was able to find out some information from her tattoos which are KK and YTT. Her racing name was Pamelas Own and she was born on 26 March 1989. Her sire was Carters Lad and her dam was Lady Aghadown.

The AEGA will try to help as many dogs like Jessie as possible. Public education about the true nature of the greyhound as a loving companion animal is a main goal.
