A note from Fermin....... It seems that the news at Scooby this year are running very fast; we havenīt been able to recover from one shock and another appears. Donīt worry, this time the dog is alive but what we have rescued today is an Irish Greyhound. She was found in the streets close to Valladolid with a rope around the neck and a lot of ticks. The woman who rescued her could not keep her and today has arrived to Scooby. The tattoos are: Right ear UR Left ear RUH so I think we have a case for the Irish. If this bitch has appeared stray and with a rope maybe somebody has tried to hang her and this is proof that many greyhounds from Meridiana are given to hunters without following what happens to them. I think we have another case Donīt you think? Fermin Update from Marion - 13 March 2005
A note from Marion Fitzgibbon in Ireland.... This Irish Greyhound was born in 1998 and sold to Sapin in 2001. Then after years of racing at Meridiana she has finished up with the gypsies in Medina del Campo. The owner in Ireland has retired from Greyhound Racing but he says that the Greyhound was most likely sold by his trainer to the Spanish Agents. Of course the Greyhound is still registered in his name as the Irish Stud book which is held by the Coursing Club never kept up to date. Nobody is held accountable for the condition and whereabouts of their Greyhounds. Marion Update from Marion...... 13 March 2005 This lucky greyhound is named Creggane Duchess and was one of seven pups. We know that her sister also was sold to Spain and another brother went to Rome. Creggane Duchess raced seven times at the Limerick Track in Southern Ireland and was then sold at Limerick Auction in 2001. How she has managed to survive since then we can only imagine. The saddest reflection on all this is the fact that nothing has changed since I visited Meridiana Track in 1997. We know that 850 Irish greyhounds are still kennelled there in the worst conditions possible. Marion. |
