The
Scooby
Refuge in Medina, Spain takes in unwanted dogs of all kinds, but
mostly Galgos and Greyhounds. Below is an update from Scooby's founder,
Fermin Perez. Dear friends, I am sorry because it has been a long time since I send to you anything. I must say that I am awfully busy coming, going, receiving volunteers, I know, please donīt be angry with me, I have also my own work and I need it for eating. Thank you Edriz for the knives, they arrived. Thank you to all the vets that we have had, so many vets working here it means that we have now only 25 uncastrated bitches and ten new males, using the material sent from the States. Thank you Suzanne, from Holland, Belgium or Germany thank you to everybody . The last weekend we were in Belgium there I could see one of the first six dogs that we re-homed in Europe and it is very nice to see. It was a very nice weekend and it was good to see so many people again, people who want to come back again. I cannot forget the English group, a wonderful team. On Wednesday the first three dogs to England they leave Spain and Mireille will carry them to England. Hopefully all will be alright. I sent the pictures at the airport.
We are now receiving a lot of dogs. I sent to you some of the latest ones because all of them have a history. We have a blind galgo, a galgo with a broken leg that the Dutch vets put something in the leg to repair it, today we took off and Marina and two Spanish volunteers vets put on another bandage. The leg is going well, also one of the two puppies we rescued had a broken leg and it was very funny to see her walking with the plaster in her leg. It is a pity I did not take any pictures.

Also six puppies were left in a box outside the refuge, a teckel hidden by a car Marina and the two vets needed six hours of surgery to repair the poor animal. Can you imagine, so small an animal? She has her hip broken and also all her mouth was destroyed but after a wonderful surgery she is doing very well. For the moment she can only eat liquid food but in a short time she will be perfect.
I have sent pictures of another blind small bitch who we rescued after another car accident also with her hip broken. We have received 19 galgos from Cadiz, some of them very skinny.

The red pictures are from the heating system in the quarantine kennels, I still need the papers from the heaters. It is becoming cold and we cannot use the heating because we need the papers.
And at the end because it is late and I am tired I want to tell you that we have appeared in a magazine a very good article and we are receiving phone calls from all over Spain of people who want to adopt a galgo, mainly from the north of Spain, not for hunting for having them like pets. We have received more than 20 adoption parents. The article has appeared all over Spain and today we have sent the first bitch to San Sebastian. I am sending also the pictures of her; she has gone with the two voluntary vets for being adopted there. It is very good news, donīt you think? Thatīs everything for the moment, thank you and sorry again for the delay. Fermin
